Purchased this book for my ten-year-old son, who is an avid reader. He had recently finished reading his second series by Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and then the Heroes of Olympus series) when the book arrived.
He finished the book tonight and sat down with me to discuss it. He loved how the story shifted timelines and how each of the characters felt important. The two new races of "aliens," he thought, were superb and talked about them extensively. He loved that faith mattered in the book and had questions about whether there was a difference between the God he loves and the entity of the Creator within the novel. He had so many questions and comments regarding the multiverse discussed within the story. Lastly, he says he KNOWS there is going to be a sequel, based on how the story ended, and he wants it as soon as it comes out.
Truly a 5-star book. Any book that can captivate the imagination of a ten-year-old boy, while also encouraging him to ask questions and seek more information... and look forward to the next installment. Well done. This single book sparked more in-depth dialogue than the overwhelming majority of books he has read. I cannot ask for an author to do more than that.
